Sustainability
The practice operates a sustainability policy to produce environmentally
sensitive buildings and more efficient construction. However we
feel strongly that sustainable building does not have to be of the
hair shirt variety and can be refined and elegant.
We will endeavour to:
* plan sites to respond to micro-climate
* mitigate noise and pollution
* adopt a life-cycle approach to design
* design adaptable, long life structures
* use environmenatally benign materials
* use local materials where possible
* use non-hazardous materials
|
* use salvaged materials
* use FSC certified timbers
* reduce preservative treatments
* construct healthy buildings
* reduce energy consumption in buildings
* reduce embodied energy in building materials
* adopt renewable energy systems (PV, wind turbines)
* reduce water consumption
* reduce surface water run-off
* daylight spaces
* design efficient artificial lighting
* naturally ventilate buildings
* optimise or reduce passive solar gain as appropriate
* reduce pollution
* reduce construction waste
* monitor buildings in use and gain feedback
